I had an idea, and now I'm pursuing it on a shoestring budget. Please be gentle to the server until we generate some money to get something better :)

Our goal at SwarmBuy is to help consumers leverage their combined numbers to help lower the prices on popular merchandise. In China the phenomenon of tuangou (team shopping) has become very popular. In some cases hundreds of people have marched en-masse into small and large stores alike to demand discounts on products. More recent developments in this tide of consumerism have brought forth forums and chatrooms dedicated to arranging such physical excursions. In some cases the target is informed in advance and pre-arranged deals are struck.

We believe that an exciting opportunity is being missed here. We think that applying the principles of tuangou with the online shopping experience of internet marketplaces like ebay will usher in a new way of shopping. With the numbers of available people engaging in Internet shopping today, we think that literal swarms of people can act together as a single voice to bring down the prices on popular products without ever having to physically rub shoulders with 499 other frantic shoppers.

In addition to empowering individual shoppers everywhere, we envision an Internet marketplace that enables smaller companies to compete more directly with big budget, big advertising companies. We see them accomplishing this by being able to reduce their own costs by purchasing larger volumes of goods to turn around and sell at lower prices to the consumers. Sellers who own physical stores will even be able to decrease their store costs by augmenting purchase volume with their own in-store needs.

Every shopper has a voice (or at least a vote :), and when we put all those voices together they buzz with unprecedented buying power (more precisely they make a lot of noise and it's confusing and incomprehensible but when heard from a distance sorta, kinda, maybe sounds buzzlike *nyah*). SwarmBuy aims to direct that buzz where it can be heard and fulfilled.

SwarmBuy does not currently, and hopes to never, charge a commission on orders. It is our hope that we can fulfill our operating costs via advertising and thus play an important role in keeping seller costs, and subsequently, seller prices as low as possible.
